EDUCATION
In the Community of Madrid there are two institutions with the characteristics of integrated centers: the Centro Integrado de Enseñanzas Artísticas de Música y Educación Primaria y Secundaria de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, founded in 2003, and the Centro Integrado de Enseñanzas Artísticas de Música y Educación Secundaria «Federico Moreno Torroba», founded in 2006.
The purpose of these centers is to provide students with the possibility of studying simultaneously, if necessary, elementary and professional musical education with Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education and the Baccalaureate in a single center. Further more, with curricular and timetable adaptations, there is an alleviated class load the students face and contribute to channeling their personal effort with a view to obtain the best results.
In the order of the integrated teachings that concern the CIEM FEDERICO MORENO TORROBA, the simultaneity of the six courses of professional music education and the four courses of Compulsory Secondary Education plus the two courses of Baccalaureate is established as a criterion, all according to the correspondence below:
PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL TEACHING | SECONDARY EDUCATION TEACHINGS |
1st of professional musical education | 1st year of Compulsory Secondary Education |
2nd of professional musical education | 2nd year of Compulsory Secondary Education |
3rd of professional musical education | 3rd year of Compulsory Secondary Education |
4th of professional nusical education | 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education |
5th of professional musical education | 1st year of Baccalaureate |
6th of professional musical education | 2nd year of Baccalaureate |
The CIEM Federico Moreno Torroba, in its integrated line, has the following characteristics:
- SCHEDULES:
The CIEM integrated educational classes start at 08:30. The day runs between that time and 13:35 or 15:00, depending on the course and class load. Between 13:35 and 14:05, in the first shift, and between 14:05 and 14:35, in the second shift, there is a lunch break for those students who require it.
Group music classes are also taught in the morning: musical language, harmony, basics of composition and history of music.
After the end time of the morning sector, each student is assigned his or her schedule for the rest of the music curriculum.
From 3:30 p.m. onwards, the center is organized according to the special education curriculum.
- CURRICULUM AND CLASS LOAD:
The music curriculum is the same as the one taught at the Conservatory. The secondary curriculum has, in some subjects, A downloaded amount of hours, in order to obtain an effective and efficient integrated education of music and secondary education.
- DEGREES:
Once the studies have been properly completed, the student obtains, as in any IES, the Baccalaureate degree and, as in the case of the Music Conservatories, the Professional Music Education Technician.

GOALS
The project has two main long-term objectives:
- To insert itself in the European educational community as a benchmark for quality integrated musical education
- To become an institution of excellence in the Community of Madrid and thus, at national level.
From these objectives will derive future collaborations within the European union for the exchange of experiences and student mobility. To this end, in the short term, we aspire to :
- Access and learn about the reality of European centers of similar teaching to ours. This will allow access to existing models of integrated education in Europe.
- To update the teaching staff.
- Create a network of contacts (the first ones will be made during two years) with centers similar to ours and keep it permanently updated or expand it autonomously during the following years. It is hoped that this contact at European level will become the identity of the Educational Project of our institution.
Our Centro Integrado de Enseñanzas Musicales is one of the only two centers with these characteristics in the Community of Madrid and it would be beneficial to promote and improve its project based on similar European experiences, which can allow improvements in terms of the management of the center, methodology, use of spaces and tutoring and better preparation for our students. This involves both the participation of the administration team and the teaching staff of both schools.
This center offers an exceptional opportunity for students who wish to dedicate themselves to music. This is a field in which the exchange of information and networking are essential. The innovation of these teachings and the advancements of the institution, nationally and internationally, will be of great benefit to these students who have such a specific and unique profile.
